Six Flags is Adding ‘Virtual Reality’ to Roller Coasters

Six Flags is adding virtual reality to rollercoasters at nine of its amusement parks across the country, which will have riders wear virtual-reality goggles while on the coasters. The Los Angeles Times reports that for Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, for instance, riders on the Revolution roller coaster will wear goggles that will show images of a midair battle with space aliens that will be synced to the motion of the coaster that they’re feeling. What the riders see in the goggles, however, will be different for all nine parks. The Times reports that one of the advantages of the technology — which Six Flags is using in partnership with Samsung — is that new software can regularly be created for the goggles, providing new experiences while using the same roller coaster, which can help draw repeat visitors to the ride.
