RadioShack Files for Bankruptcy Again, Closing 200 Stores

RadioShack has filed for its second bankruptcy in two years, and will close 187 more stores this month. That’s about 9% of its 1,900+ locations. The electronics chain is based in Fort Worth, Texas and previously filed for bankruptcy in 2015. That resulted in about 2,400 store closings. General Wireless then bought it and has been running over 1,500 Radio Shack stores. The chain filed a Chapter 11 reorganization petition this week in the U.S Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. The petition says that besides the 187 stores that are closing this month, the chain is closing the RadioShack portion of the 360 stores that it shares with Sprint. It’s also looking into whether to do the same thing in 971 other shared stores. About 1,850 of RadioShack’s employees are expected to be affected by the moves.
